DESCRIPTION:“Quilt as desired” Well\, what does that mean??? \nThere are a lot of techniques for quilting your projects – but instructions are scattered all over and not always easy to find. This class will explore some of the options and give you a chance to try each of them. We will not be creating a finished piece\, but we will create sampler squares. \nFor example: \n\nMarking directly on the quilt – what options work for creating stitching lines – straight\, diagonal\, crosshatch etc. Tracing around found objects to create designs.\nusing stencils – how to mark a quilt using a stencil – looking for continuous line designs\, making stencils fit in the space you have\nCopying designs and using Golden Threads paper – how to place and stitch designs through paper.\nFree motion meandering – loops\, pebbles\, and other designs\nUsing rulers with your machine to add to your design options.\n\nWe’ll also explore thread and batting options. If you’re uncomfortable with free motion quilting\, this will be a good way to practice your skills. DESCRIPTION:Join us in creating a masterpiece! We’ll manipulate our fabric in this class in such a way that many could use the same fabric to create an entirely different quilt. \n\nCreative Grids 45° Kaleidoscope & Dresden Plate Ruler (CGRTKAL45)\nRotary cutting mat (We do have shared cutting stations if you’d prefer not to bring along\n6½” x 24” ruler\n60mm Rotary cutter with a new blade (with a blade that you can expose – we will be cutting through 8 layers of fabric)\nFlower head pins (I recommend Clover brand – but not the ones for fine fabric)\nFabric requirements:\n\nThe center of this quilt is made from a single fabric. Pick a print that has fairly large motifs. (you may use a quilter’s design mirror to help you). If the fabric you choose has closely spaced motifs and not a lot of color variation\, you’ll produce a quilt with a subtle\, blended look. If you’d like your quilt to have more contrast\, choose a fabric with motifs that are more widely spaced or that contain more colors. Motifs that are randomly spaced throughout the fabric work well. Small\, tightly spaced motifs or ones that have straight lines or linear elements often do not work as well. When you have found a fabric that you’d like to use\, measure the pattern repeat. Select a fabric with a 12” to 24” repeat. (The greater the repeat\, the more variety of blocks you’ll produce) Buy enough fabric for eight repeats plus a little extra. With a 24” repeat\, this will be 5 ½ yards. Please call or email if you have questions about fabric selection.
